2022-05-25 Multilingual political communication in Stockholm, Sweden

Part of my entrepreneurial work is to work with multilingual and intercultural communication for Jema Rådgivning AB, a consulting, analytical, and social company.

My latest work is contributing to a local association/chapter of the Moderate Party (Conservative Party, Moderaterna, EPP affiliated) in Stockholm’s municipality of Botkyrka to communicate in eight languages besides Swedish and English. These eight languages are Arabic, French, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Urdu.

My experience and hope from this work is that other parties in Sweden will aspire to communicate more and better by applying multilingual and intercultural communication in order to include more local residents in democratic conversations. After all, one of the most important tasks in politics is the ability and willingness to show that one cares about others, especially when it comes to community and local level interactions, problems, and daily life.
